LAGUNA - Guest Comments

Laguna Beach is a handsome looking resort close to Male'. Developed originally as an up-market resort, it is less expensive now without having lost any of its good looks, service or facilities.

In some ways there is a mix of people and what they want from their holiday. On the other hand are somewhat older, richer guests who enjoy peace and quiet, beautiful surroundings and a variety of restaurants. On the other hand are younger couples looking for a more active holiday: water sports and evening entertainments, possibly with child care.

The resort has so far managed wonderfully in catering to both sets of clients. almost every night there is a live band, disco or other entertainment on in the main bar, by the swimming pool.

The buildings and the interiors belong to the grand, formal style of city hotels; offering a combination of city-life + tropical-life. Thus the beaches are wide, lagoon is clear and clean. The land  rooms are close together but divided by, sometimes almost hidden behind, a colorful array of perfectly kept flowers and shrubs, as you could see from the below picture.

Fifty rooms are in two-storey blocks (four rooms per block), which include one suite of two rooms and one of three. The other 65 rooms are individual bungalows, which are a little larger but otherwise decorated to the regular block rooms. a third bed, and possibly a fourth, can be fitted in for the children. A nice touch is the tea and coffee making facility. The rooms has minibar, television. Mini bar drinks are expensive compared to other resorts.

The one thing that hellomaldives guests couldn't forget is the WATER Bungalows. These bungalows are well suited and located close to the reef, giving easy access for snorkeling grounds.

There is a good variety of beachscape here, sometimes broad, sometimes small and private. There is also little in the way of groynes and walls, which makes it a pleasure to look at and walk around. The snorkeling is fair in the lagoon, but going out to the drop-off, although it is superb, is not recommended for novices because of the too often fast flowing channels at the edge of the reef. Diving in the region is good, with the sites in the southern part of North Male' also accessible.

A full list of tours is organized, including snorkeling excursions, Male' excursions, photo flights, glass-bottomed boat trips and all types of fishing. It used to be that these events were not well taken up, but with the changing clientele this resort is becoming a more "happening", fun and family place.
