Just a few kilometers away from the Airport, Full Moon Beach has been rebuilt to fulfill the dreams and expectations of a cosmopolitan business class. If you are looking for the barefoot, laid back, original Maldives style then this resort may not be for you. What you get here is luxury: all the facilities of a modern resort, along with good looks and five star hotel service.

Some of our guests says that all facilities, good look and service come together around the swimming pool. Probably the largest and the best looking pool in the country. And the pool is as popular as the beach, at fullmoon. Drinks are served at the poolside from the adjoining main bar, which it is very comfortable and has a delightful sundeck over the shallows of the lagoon where baby sharks can be seen.

Across the ornamental bridge from the pool are the main public buildings. Additional facilities here include a Karaoke lounge, a piano bar for the evenings, a hairdresser’s and a fully equipped business center. The buildings are all solidly built in a sort of monumental style, with columns, wooden beams and bougainvillea.

The bougainvillea is just a small part of the resort’s floral landscape. With a full-time horticulturist and an army of gardeners all the public areas are beautifully decorated. Not particularly Maldivian but certainly attractive.

On this bell shaped island the wide end is reserved for the service area and the two sides have all the rooms. Down one side run the 52 water bungalows, and down the other run the 104 beach rooms (in two-storey) blocks of 4. All the rooms are of a high standard with a/c and hot water, a bath, hair dryer, minibar and telephone.

The beach in front of the rooms is broad and long, but not of the natural quality. The fact is that the beaches on the island have mostly been manufactured by dredging out sand from the lagoon and other areas. This result in a coarser grain of coral sand; entirely satisfactory of course, just not ideal.

The lagoon all around is pleasant for swimming, but although there are some good coral areas it is too large for easy snorkeling access. The gradually sloping lagoon is ideal for learning to dive and, for a non "diving island", diving is fairly popular here, but that is understandable with 30 regular and 40 possible sites within a 55 minute radius.

For further action there is the sports center with its twin new tennis courts, its gym, sauna and Jacuzzi (and piped-in music, as everywhere). These facilities are not heavily used, but they are there if you want them. What people mostly want is to enjoy the luxury of doing very little. One of the more difficult choices is deciding which restaurant to go. The main one is not as good as it might be, but there are four other, specialists, restaurants to try out.
