In January 1999, Eriyadu was opened after a major refit. With this refit, it has reemerge with top class facilities. This island is not on the outer edge of the Atoll. Islands on the outside of Atolls tend to have huge lagoons whose reef is too far away for snorkeling.

The beach on Eriyadu goes right around the island and is mostly broad and fine, with one tongue of sand reaching far into the lagoon. The reef follows the shape of the island and never stays too far from shore, which means it is always accessible by swimming (or from the end of the jetty). And the snorkeling itself is excellent, with very good coral cover and fish numbers. It is so good that it is often dived as well; manta rays, eagle rays and tuna have all been seen.

At the same time, it doesn't take long the dive boats to reach any one of the many impressive dive sites on this side of the Atoll. Further more, Eriyadhoo is the most northerly of the few resorts on this west side, so there is very little competition for the sites. The island's dive base is large and efficient. On the front desk is a folder with pictures and descriptions of all the dive sites they got to.

Eriyadhoo has 60 rooms, and each of these rooms has air-conditioning, hot and cold shower and bath, TV, and a fully stocked mini bar. These rooms are known as SUPERIOR Rooms. Thus they are really Superior in every aspect.

All meals are served on buffet, in between the coffee shop is always their to serve hot snacks and drinks. These are also available in the bar, which is a large attractive thatched building built over the beach (right side picture). With its high ceiling and open sides it stays cool and offers good views along the beach and down the jetty. One night a week a disco takes over.

People enjoyed Eriyadu because it was a simple resort without any pretensions. At the same time the snorkeling was excellent and the island was beautiful. That shouldn't change, but the the public areas should mean still better value for money.
