Tari has a few pluses. First and foremost, it is inexpensive. As it is close to the Airport it is quick and cheap to reach. Furthermore, it has friendly easy-going atmosphere and, to whom it may concern, it has excellent surf. On the downside, it is not pretty at all and it is in need of maintenance.

Physically the island is a bit of mess. There seem to have been plans for walls, beaches, open spaces and vegetation which have been started and never properly finished. And those that have been finished have not been maintained. Yet the central area around the restaurant, the bar and the pond between them is neatly swept, attractive and shady under tall coconut palms.

Thulhagiri is a good resort not far from the Airport and the capital, Male'. It is a smart, handsome resort, but not imposing. The atmosphere is calm and casual, the environment is attractive and the staffs are particularly friendly.

Although this is a small resort, it seems bigger because it is not rigidly laid out. There is a sandy path leading in from the jetty and the rest is up to you. You work out your own favorite way around the island. The rooms are not equally spaced all around the outside. And the undercover of many tall coconut palms, the place have more of a small village feel.
