Kudahithi is not so much a resort as a house with 7 exotic rooms. A quiet, peaceful house on a tiny island surrounded by a coral garden.

"Kuda" means small and this island takes less than 10 minutes to walk around. Apart from the rooms (and a small service area) there is only one other building. Walking off the jetty one step into the parlor of some turn-of-the-century bourgeois country house. Here is the heavy black wooden furniture, the tapestry cushions, the solid display cabinets and the samovar. As it only has three sides it is like a stage set looking out not to an audience but to the Indian Ocean.

As you can see fro the above picture, don't you think that Kuda Rah is more Mediterranean in appearance; indeed, it's expensive and a little more formal. If you didn't look at the palm trees or turquoise water you might well imagine yourself in some European destination, a real home far from home for sun seekers. The buildings have balustrades, arches, terracotta tiles over verandas, and flat roofs. Inside, all is white and spacious, with antiques.

This elegance is echoed in the landscape. Fortunate to have a mature island with tall palms and a full canopy, it has been enhanced with bowers of bougainvillea, frangipani trees and flowers.

Come to Kandooma for moderate diving and cheap accommodation. Go somewhere else if you are looking for anything else, because it is the entire island really offers.

It is the diving close by that makes Kandooma worth considering. Not that it makes much difference between a five-minute boat ride and 25, but there you are. On the edge of its own reef is "among the underwater marvels of the Maldives". Kandooma Caves are probably the largest caves in the Male' Atolls. At the same time, the diving spots are limited in this Atoll.
