     Port of Male' - Maldives

 

There are 3 main ways to get clearance to the ports of Maldives;
 
The easiest way and the faster way to enter Maldives will be to get clearance from Port of Male'. This is the main Port to Maldives and the Capital City of Maldives where all the commercial activities take place.

There are two other Sea-ports where clearance can be obtained those are to the North (Uligamu Port) and to the South (Gan Port).

 

Pilot embarkation and disembarkation position is Latitude: 04 10.5 N Longitude: 073 30.5E.

Maximum Draft :  9.5m (Alongside Berth) ; 20m - 40m (At Outer Anchorage).

 
Restriction:
Vessels are not allowed to Port Maldives / Male' from 2300 hrs to 0600 hrs at any day.

Vessel calling Maldives Ports should send ETA message 48 hours in advance as per Port Circular MPA-H-99-02. Vessels approaching Male' Port should contact Harbour Control on VHF channel 10, 2 hours prior to arrival at the Pilot Boarding Ground
 
Maldives Cost guard maintains watch on channel 16 on 24hrs a day, and hence you are expected to adhere the following
 
As you anchor, Coastguard will board with pilot for security clearance.
 
Followed by Maldives Customs officers, Immigrations officers and Port Health officers followed by HelloMaldives / Port Harbor Officers for inward clearance. Changing anchorage position for any reason should be informed to the port before moving and just after anchoring in new position.
 
All vessel's after receiving out-ward clearance should inform harbor control before moving and sailing. Immobilization and hot work should be done on vessels after obtaining permission from port. Permission has to be obtained by Maldives Customs for clearances formalities and for load and unloading goods
 
Only the International code of signals flag are used. Vessels entering Maldives should display international quarantine flag until Ports Authority's health officials grant health clearance. All vessels must also display original Country flag along with Maldivian flag from 0600 - 1800 hrs

The group of the islands of the Maldives extends in a N/S direction from 00 41.48 S to approximately 08 00N, to the SQ of the Indian subcontinent. Male' the Capital City and the Principal port, is centrally situated on the E side of the group.

     General Overview

 

The new harbour area in the extreme NW of Male' is to be used to load and unload foreign trade cargo vessels with drafts of 9.5m and LOA of 150m.

Vessels can berth at the Northern pier (Magathufaalan). The harbor area also incorporates a marina. The average ship turn around is 88.32 hours.

h Port Health clearance by radio not applicable

h Any sick person or dead body onboard should be notified to Port Health by cable, 24hrs in advance
h Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required only if the vessel has called at yellow fever area during last 30 days
h Permission to be obtained to bring animals including pets with valid health certificates

     Customs & Immigration

 

Maldives Customs Services are currently located at Boduthakurufaanu Magu, behind the commercial harbour premises.
 
The following is a notification from the Maldives Customs Services to vessels calling at Male' Commercial Harbour.
 
hAll ships are required to submit a port clearance, cargo manifest, passenger and crew list and where applicable, any other relevant documents.
hDeparture time should be reported and port clearance obtained.
hAll visitors, officers, crew and passengers of ships are requested to use the Male' Commercial Services.
hForeigners are not allowed to land at Male' after 10.00pm (2200hrs) without prior permission.
