Island Hideaway at Dhonakulhi Maldives, Spa Resort & Marine

The Island Hideaway at Dhonakulhi Maldives, Spa Resort & Marina is a new luxury boutique resort situated on the privately-owned uninhabited virgin island of Dhonakulhi, North Maldives, Indian Ocean. The resort was opened on 1st August 2005 with 6 types of spectacular guest villas. The marina is the first of its kind in the Maldives. The Island is a haven of peace, tranquility and serenity. The Island Hideaway is one of the very few resorts (currently 3) in the Haa Alifu Atoll.

Guests are whisked to The Island Hideaway in the North of the Maldives by a 45-minute scenic photo-flight from the international airport at Malé, the capital city, to Hanimaadhoo (Domestic) Airport followed by an exhilarating 20 minute speedboat hop to Dhonakulhi Island. The island is delighted to introduce the FIRST Marina in the Maldives, a fully-equipped, state-of-the-art Marina, built by Walcon Marine - a well-known Marina Builder.

Dhonakulhi is a physically large crescent-shaped island with a beach length of some 1.4 kilometres on each side, a width of 500 metres and land area of 234,000 m² – equivalent to 28 football pitches. The crystal clear turquoise waters of the shallow waist-deep lagoon surrounding the Island stretch as far as the eye can see. The Island is unique in its reef formation, the reef system it sits on having a natural channel splitting it in two distinct parts, and thereby forming a natural harbor for the marina. In addition to coconut trees, banana trees and lush vegetation, the Island is covered by uniquely rich dense bushy vegetation.

Nature and luxury blend harmoniously together at The Island Hideaway. The entire Island and lagoon is the exclusive and private domain of the island guests. The guest villa complexes are some of the largest of any resort in the Maldives. These majestic chalets are tucked into the lush greenery and scattered along the beach-line some 30 metres apart from one another, providing the ultimate in privacy. All of the Island’s villas boast breathtaking panoramic views over the beautiful turquoise lagoon and Indian Ocean. The designs of the furniture, fixtures and fittings are a rustic celebration of nature, and they have used custom-made hand-finished natural materials throughout. At the same time, however, guests can indulge all their senses in the magic of this Maldivian Island and enjoy every exclusive luxury which sophisticated globetrotters have come to expect.

Despite the extensive facilities and services at The Island Hideaway, boasts saying that they have utilized barely 5% of the Island and lagoon, thereby leaving 95% in its original state, untouched by the hand of man.

Characterized by their own garden, a separate sleeping and living area with teak flooring, open-air bathroom and a wooden patio area facing the beach with two thickly cushioned teak sun-beds, these Villas offer luxury over and above the call of duty.

The Funa Pavilion Bedroom has a super-king-size bed (2m x 2m) with custom-made mattresses 25 cm in thickness and which have been pocket-sprung springs for maximum comfort. Bed linen is made from a heavenly satin finish.

Oversize cushions and pillows scatter on the beds and the day-beds with a combination of materials carefully selected for their comfort and aesthetic values, including cotton and silk.

The en-suite bathroom has separate outdoor garden shower facilities. The bathrooms contain a blend of modern and traditional styles, including stone, such as granite, slate and onyx, as well as timber. Our sinks are hand-made from single pieces of granite, with modern taps and fittings, and there is an outdoor two-person occupancy Jacuzzi bath.

The Maldivian Swing (Undholi) Pavilion with its wide two-person traditional carved wood swing, used for centuries by Maldivian families for relaxation, completes the perfect setting for your hideaway from the world.

Spread over 385 square metres, our elegantly rustic Raamba Retreats with their open floor-level outdoor terraces and landscaped gardens offer the perfect seclusion for a peaceful retreat.

We have used carefully selected natural finishes throughout the Raamba Retreat both in terms of materials used and the ‘look’ of the finishes.

The en-suite Bathroom in the Raamba Retreat has been fitted with hand-crafted ‘two-person’ baths and have separate outdoor garden shower facilities, as well as a spacious walk-in wardrobe area.

The Raamba Retreat Bedroom has a super-king-size bed (2m x 2m) with custom-made mattresses 25 cm in thickness and which have been pocket-sprung springs for maximum comfort.

Each Residence, in a compound of over 550 square metres, has an open-plan living area with a timber deck outdoor seating.

We have used carefully selected natural finishes throughout the Dhonakulhi Residence, both in terms of materials used and the ‘look’ of the finishes.

The Dhonakulhi Residence Jacuzzi Splash Pool is 2.5m x 4m and comfortably sits two.

Guests can also use the day-bed on top of the cool sandstone-finished Roof Terrace for sleeping out under the stars or lazing in the sun.

The Jasmine Garden Villa Infinity Swimming Pool is 9.5 metres in length by 4 metres in width with Jacuzzi air-jets built-in into the steps/seating.

The Jasmine Garden Villa Bedroom has a super-king-size bed(2m x 2m) with custom-made mattresses 25 cm in thickness and which have been pocket-sprung springs for maximum comfort.

Oversize cushions and pillows scatter on the beds, the day-beds and on the various sofas, again with a combination of materials carefully selected for their comfort and aesthetic values, including cotton and silk.

Guests can also use the day-bed on top of the cool sandstone-finished Roof Terrace for sleeping out under the stars or lazing in the sun.

Our two stand-alone Hideaway Water Suites have their own exclusive ocean-view treatment room, sauna, steam room, outdoor round bathtub overlooking the tranquil lagoon, sundeck, lagoon access, and complete in-villa spa treatment facilities in which guests can look forward to being pampered by a team of dedicated spa specialists from Mandara Spa.

Each Hideaway Palace is sprawled over an expansive 1,420 square metres of land, located on a golden natural sandbank and erected one facing sunrise, and the other facing sunset.

The Villas and pavilions of the Hideaway Palace are surrounded by timber deck and swimming pools of various shapes and sizes, ranging from smaller shallow pools ones for children to a main pool of 12 metres in length by 8 metres in width at its widest point.

Instead of using traditional tiling, all pools have been finished in quartezone in order to give as close to a feeling of sand as possible without actually being made from sand!

Wooden flooring in the villas and deck area are made of Merbau timber selected specifically for its grain and colour.

Our Meeru Bar, situated on the beach, has a unique design in that the roof structure is like the inside of a boat’s hull and the deck area extends over water giving fantastic sunset views.
